About Me
Manlio was born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, currently residing on the island of Roatan in the Bay Islands for the past 10 years. He has an Undergraduate Degree in Business Administration from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras (UNAH) and later attended Handelshögskolan, the Business School at Gothenburg University in Gothemburg, Sweden, where he received an MSC Degree in Tourism & Hospitality Management. His aim was to move to Roatan and work in the tourism sector. After a short stint with a Canadian tour operator, Martínez decided to shift his focus more on sustainability by leading a conservation initiative promoting Environmental Best Practices among tourism SMEs in the Bay Islands. As the Director of this initiative sponsored by USAID and Coral Reef Alliance, Martínez managed a National Geographic, Geotourism Map Guides, website, where one of his main duties was to create the marketing content for this project. This included the creation of over 15 videos promoting the initiative. After the experience gained during this time, he decided to focus solely on video production, launching his own production company, Manlio Martínez-Digital Media (MMDM) in 2019, focusing primarily on educational projects related to the conservation and protection of the natural environment. He has produced videos for Coral Reef Alliance, Roatan Marine Park, Bay Islands Conservation Association, University of Memphis, and has provided interview footage for Restless Development, Coalition Wild, California Academy of Sciences, and material that was featured in a CNN Call to Earth report. In 2021 Martínez wrote and directed a documentary about the conservation of the ecosystems surrounding the Bay Islands, which was an Official Selection at the 2023 International Ocean Film Festival, was screened by PADI to its PADI Club members, and was selected by the 2024 Thunder Bay International Film Festival.
